Opening Your Own NP Practice: Tips and Considerations

The goal of this basic and intermediate-level symposium is to address practical, legal, marketing and billing principles associated with opening your own Multiple Sclerosis and Neurology Nurse Practitioner (NP) practice. Opening your own NP practice requires a business plan about staffing, budgeting, and choosing your location. A business plan will organize your practice and will guide your expenses. The process of opening a new practice begins with a ‘to do list’ and identifying reliable resources in your community or outside your community. Recruiting patients and marketing your NP practice are critical in building up your practice. Using technology, designing your website, and engaging in multiple social media platforms are highly helpful resources in marketing and publicizing your practice. Additionally, you may advertise your practice once it is up and running on different platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, Google, and/or others. Professional memberships in different organizations are highly supportive, particularly membership in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) organization and neurology organizations, such as, the American Academy of Neurology. This course will provide you with tips and practical considerations on ‘what to do’ and ‘what not to do’ when opening your own NP practice. Level of information: Basic, Intermediate.
