Pediatric Onset MS: Therapies, Outcomes and Transition
Chair: Ann Yeh, MD, FRCP(C) (Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto)
MS in children is characterized by high disease burden as demonstrated by MRI and relapse rate, together with known changes brain growth trajectory and high rates of depression and fatigue. This symposium will review recent developments in pediatric MS including current therapeutic approaches in youth with MS and knowledge about the trajectory of longer-term outcomes in youth with MS using real-world cohorts. In addition, we will summarize interventional strategies focused on changing known outcome trajectories, including remyelination and non-pharmacologic approaches in youth with MS. Finally, we will provide a summary of approaches to transition from pediatric to adult care, with an emphasis on newer work aimed at understanding and improving the transitional process.
