Integrative Medicine for MS Clinicians-Dietary Supplements, Vibration Training and Hippotherapy

Chair: Allen C. Bowling, MD, PhD (NeuroHealth Institute)

This symposium will provide objective, MS-relevant information about integrative medicine, which is the combined use of conventional, unconventional, and lifestyle medicine. The information will be general as well as specific and will be appropriate for a wide range of health professionals. The introduction of the program will provide basic information about integrative medicine and consider the possible ‘anti-burnout’ effect of practicing integrative medicine. Three specific integrative medicine topics will then be discussed. The first session will provide evidence-based review of the effectiveness and safety of multiple MS-relevant dietary supplements, including vitamin D and herbal therapies. This will be followed by a review of the use of vibration training and other biomechanical interventions to prevent falls in MS. The final session will review the potential benefits of hippotherapy in MS. Level of Information: Basic, Intermediate, Advanced
