Health Equity in Multiple Sclerosis Management: The Time Is Now

Release Date: March 21, 2025
Expiration Date: September 21, 2025

This activity is provided by the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers and CMEology.

This activity is supported by an educational grant from Genentech, a member of the Roche Group.

Program Description

Multiple sclerosis (MS) can lead to significant disability if not promptly diagnosed and effectively managed. Health care disparities and persistent medical myths contribute to diagnostic delays, treatment inequities, and underrepresentation in clinical research. While MS affects individuals across all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups, systemic barriers—such as limited specialist access and delayed diagnoses—disproportionately impact specific populations. Implicit bias, social determinants of health, and structural racism widen these gaps, leading to worse patient outcomes. To advance MS care, clinicians must challenge misconceptions, provide culturally competent care, and promote diversity in research participation. This activity will equip health care professionals with strategies to incorporate social determinants of health into MS management, enhance equitable access to high-quality treatment, and improve representation in clinical trials.

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of neurologists, primary care clinicians, advanced practice neurology clinicians, neurology nurses, pharmacists, mental health professionals, and other members of the health care professional team involved in the care of patients with multiple sclerosis.
