Despite the heterogenous clinical presentation of multiple sclerosis (MS) and the potential for degenerative changes in sensory function and mobility, patients with MS are often not referred to rehabilitation until they have a relapse or until they experience a change in function (fall, self-reported difficulty with thinking, difficulty with daily functioning), rather than early after diagnosis. In this interactive session, a panel made of physical, occupational and speech therapy clinicians and researchers will discuss current issues in MS rehabilitation and strategies to facilitate interprofessional communication and enhance the care and quality of life of persons with MS. A moderator will pose questions, take questions from the audience, and guide discussion. In the first hour, panelists will present the evidence and best-practice for rehabilitation and outcome assessment across the MS disease spectrum. After the break, the panel and audience will brainstorm ways to improve communication among prescribers, patients, and the rehabilitation team as well as discuss what patients and prescribers of MS rehabilitation should expect from rehabilitation providers. Audience experiences and discussion will be encouraged throughout the session. Level of Information: Intermediate
